In a recent interview with Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun explains nobody from Ogun West could be governor without support outside the Senatorial District. He also emphasized the need for a candidate from the District to emerge as the next Governor as that is good for equity and fairness.
It is important to recognize the need for inclusiveness in governance, and this call by the incumbent Governor provides a clear sense of leadership and direction worthy of emulation. It is on record that previous Ogun West candidates contending for the highest Office were murdered, coerced or simply marginalized in the high-octane political environment.
The essence of His Excellency’s intervention would however be lost if Ogun West people are not resolved to provide a common front and action for the realization of this time-honored quest. Early reports indicate the same cycle of divisive and irreconcilable ambition of leaders from the District is being presently repeated.
Ogun State remains a key State in Nigeria, and its leadership cannot be hung on indecision.
